First publication in the German Sustainability Code (DNK)

In order to document our sustainable development transparently, make it comparable and visible to our stakeholders, we wrote a sustainability report for the first time in June 2023. It relates to the 2022 financial year and was published in accordance with the reporting standards of the German Sustainability Code (DNK).

The so-called "triad of sustainability" of economic growth opportunities, ecological aspects and social justice has determined our actions since Franz Burwinkel founded our medium-sized family business in 1978. As a company in the plastics industry, we were already dealing with the topics of circular economy and recycling in the 1980s, for example.

In 2021, we translated our activities into a sustainability strategy and formulated concrete goals. In conjunction with this, we determined our CO2 footprint in 2022 and embarked on a path to reducing our emissions. The strategy has since been incorporated into all areas of the company.

When implementing, we are guided by the well-known international standards and objectives, for example the Paris Climate Agreement (1.5 degree target), the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) and the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol).

The German Sustainability Code (DNK) is a voluntary standard for reporting on sustainability aspects based on 20 criteria. It describes minimum requirements for sustainability communication and thus provides a framework for reporting non-financial performance. The DNK is managed by the Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) on behalf of the Federal Government. Our formal report can be viewed in the database on the DNK website. The publication of the next sustainability report is planned for the 2024 financial year.

In the second half of 2023, we will also publish a print report of our DNK declaration - as a clear, compact version and supplemented by further insights and outlooks, interviews, quotes, graphics, figures, facts and images from our corporate environment.
